Ontario Grain Farmer December 2024 / January 2025

34 Good in Every Grain www.GoodinEveryGrain.ca Fields to Forks Good in Every Grain partnered with CTV News on their initiative, Fields to Forks, to highlight the importance of grain farming to Ontario’s radio, television, and digital audiences. Fields to Forks tells the story of food production from the farms to the manufacturers and distributors to the consumers through a variety of mediums. Good in Every Grain worked alongside the team at CTV News to create advertisements for radio, television, and online (website and social media) that aired for six weeks in the summer and early fall of 2024. These ads were played across Ontario in the London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Barrie, and Ottawa markets to help consumers to understand one of the challenges facing farmers today: mental health and wellness. The 2024 spring planting season was a challenge for many farmers across Ontario. With wet planting conditions, high input costs and an uncertainty on market prices, many farmers were dealing with high stress, anxiety and other mental wellness issues. Statistics show that 68 per cent of farmers are more susceptible than the general population to chronic stress, which can lead to physical and mental illness –a statistic that shows just how challenging grain farming can be. Good in Every Grain highlighted these challenges for the Ontario consumer audience – not to invoke feelings of sympathy or weakness in our membership, but rather to remind consumers that farming can be a challenging business and with that comes many uncertainties, stressors, and difficult things farmers have to navigate to grow high-quality, healthy food. Thing to Know T.O. Good in Every Grain also reached the Toronto radio, television, and online audience with another partnership this summer. CTV Toronto and CP24 shone a spotlight on local businesses across the Greater Toronto Area in the talk series Things to Know T.O., and Good in Every Grain invited co-host Nicole Servinis to Brad Nimijohn’s farm outside of Millgrove, Ontario, to learn first-hand how important Ontario grain farmers are to the food consumers eat each day. Brad and Nicole chatted about the growing season, the fall harvest, and explored soybean and corn fields.
