The success of the teacher seed kits

TEACHER SEED KITS REACH 43,000 STUDENTS

For the 2024 – 2025 school year, Good in Every Grain mailed out over 15,000 seed kits to 43,000 students across Ontario. These kits were unique this year, as they were diversified to better accommodate different classroom environments. Teachers were able to order 1 of the 3 following kits:

  • Window Farm Seed Kit: Students grew their own soybean seeds in a unique, exploratory visual growing kit.
  • STEMterprise Seed Kit: Teachers were able to order seed kits as part of their 10- stage STEMterprise project, with accompanying lesson plans and classrooms materials.
  • Seeds Only Kit: Based on feedback from classrooms, many teachers had existing lessons or materials available to plant seeds as part of the Grade 3 curriculum, minus the access to Ontario grain seeds. This kit provided soybean, wheat and oats seeds to classrooms.

Through surveys, online form submissions and feedback via email, educators teaching kindergarten to Grade 8 told us they loved the new diverse selection of seeds kits. One kindergarten teacher said the Window Farm lesson plan and seed kit “was great opening activity to gear up for Earth Month and its connection to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and ‘how we can take care of the Earth.’ It would also be a resource that fit perfectly with their measurement unit.”

Grade 3 teachers said the Window Farm lesson plan “connects very well to the Grade 3 science curriculum, Growth and Changes in Plants, as well as using the kit to observe plant grow and reflect on changes and what plants need to grow.”

Educators also commented saying, “Our class has thoroughly enjoyed the seeds provided to us! We have created the field of sprouting soybeans. It has helped us learn all about how plants grow and see the various parts in action!”

TEACHER SEED KIT WINS AT 2025 BEST OF CAMA

Good in Every Grain was recognized as a finalist and winner at the 2025 Best of Canadian Agri-Marketing Association (CAMA) awards. The 2025 Best of CAMA Awards showcased the bold ideas, strategic thinking and creative brilliance driving agri-food marketing across Canada. With 301 entries across 34 categories, submissions reflected the energy, resiliency and momentum shaping the agriculture industry.

Good in Every Grain’s Teacher Seed Kits were named a finalist in the Overall Industry and Public Relations Program and went on to win the top honour. They were also submitted to—and won—the Best of Show for Overall Industry and Public Relations.

CAMA had high regards for the entry: “This entry stood out for its clear strategic thinking and deep understanding of educator needs. Grain Farmers of Ontario delivered a program that was practical, flexible, and scalable – combining strong planning with measurable impact to meaningfully connect thousands of students with Ontario agriculture.” •
