HIGHLIGHTING THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY IN GRAIN PRODUCTION AND UTILIZATION
New seed applied fungicide available
Researchers at Syngenta say the recently developed seed treatment known as Sedaxane appears to be a particularly effective tool against the pathogen Rhizoctonia, as well as other key seed and soil born diseases. Sedaxane inhibits fungal growth and strengthens root systems, both of which eventually lead to higher yields and better quality seed, says the company.
Additionally, the company says it is compatible with a large number of crops, and may easily and effectively be used in combination with many different Syngenta treatments.
Sedaxane is Syngenta’s first seed applied fungicide, and is argued by the company to be superior to other, earlier SDHI compounds due to the high number of ailments it can cure, and its ability to coincide with other treatment methods. •
Pioneer develops “Plenish”
Pioneer is set to release “Plenish,” a soybean with a high oil profile. The company expects this new bean to meet consumer demands as it has “healthier oil with increased functionality.” The seeds contains zero trans fat and 20 and 75 percent less saturated fat than conventional soybean and palm oil respectively, says the company.
In terms of productivity, growers of this variety can expect yields comparable to other conventional varieties, and benefits from the seed’s high resistance to Soybean Cyst Nematode and Sudden Death Syndrome, says Pioneer.
The variety is currently entering the final stages of testing and is expected to become available next year. With this launch, Pioneer is hopeful that the soybean will garner specific incentives from processors for its unique characteristics. All factors considered, Pioneer hopes this will prove to be a practical, and healthy alternative for farmers, food manufacturers and consumers alike. •
